Ganta Park and Cemetery Project
Like most communities in Liberia, basic
infrastructures including water, latrines, public parks and cemeteries
are nonexistent. Instead, residents bury their dead in their
backyards. Lack of public latrines also means residents use the
outlaying bushes as toilets. When it rains, which it does most of the
year, human remains and fecal materials find their way into the streams
and rivers from which the residents get their drinking water. Using
this contaminated water has been a good recipe for cholera and other
water borne diseases.
In the view of this, Sua Foundation, Inc. has
approached the Superintendent of Nimba County, Ganta City Council, and
the Mayor of Ganta to partner on a Park and Cemetery project. The city
has agreed to provide the land and the foundation will provide the
financial resources for clearing and landscaping the property. Sua
Foundation, Inc. has already defrayed the cost for surveying the land,
and we are in the process of clearing the site. We are in need of funds
to complete this project.
